MB: As debate across our nation on the legalization of marijuana becomes more intense, people on both sides of the dispute are imposing drastic messages to get their point across. The Las Angeles Times reported recently The American Medical Assn. changed its policy to promote the clinical research and development of cannabis based medicines. However big of a boost this may have been for advocates of legalizing marijuana; a number of cities and states opposed to the legalization of the drug have struck back and banned medical pot shops based on increases in crime and profiteering. Over 120 cities and eight counties in California have banned medical marijuana dispensaries.
I have mentioned in a previous post that as our national deficit increases the possibility of the legalization of marijuana is amplified equally. It has been proposed that the tax revenue received from the drug will have a significant impact on our countries deficit. I however am not convinced that the benefits outweigh the risks (not yet at least). I will over the next several weeks be researching this topic in an attempt to find the economic impact that the legalization of the drug would have on the country. I will keep you all updated on my findings throughout the process and would appreciate any information that you may have.
